Another spectacular day in Dunedin ...

We have been so lucky with our weather this summer. OK, so for the most part the temperature isn't quite as warm as it is up north, which is only to be expected when you're this much further (or should that be farther ?) from the equator and an equal distance closer to the South Pole.

The MOTH had just finished serving up dinner tonight (roast chicken, salad and crispy fried potatoes ... yummy) when S asks "Can we go and eat outside under the tree on the grass ?"

Umm ... you know how it is when your initial reaction is to just say "No" because "we don't normally do things like that and it's a school night and you have to be in bed early" ?!?!?

Well ... we didn't say no. And the rugrats ate their dinner in ten minutes flat, were in an excellent mood for the remainder of the evening and went to bed with a minimum of fuss and argument.

So I think we might embrace this method of dining wholeheartedly ... at least until the novelty wears off, or the cold weather hits, whichever happens first :) There's less mess to clean up at any rate ...

And in keeping with the whole al fresco dining idea, the pic below shows S and her best friend eating lunch under the aforementioned tree last weekend (is it just me, or does anyone else think they look like they should be closely related ?)

Counting down ...

Drove to Invercargill for racing today ... the last competition before we head north to Cambridge for the nationals at Easter (only seven weeks to go !!!).

Both rugrats raced extremely well. Although we tell them repeatedly that placings aren't what we care about, we just want to see them trying their best, it's still awesome for them when effort = results.

S came second in the six year girls, and K came third in the nine - ten year mixed (he's eight) ...
S is ecstatic that, by virtue of the fact that she raced today, she now qualifies to race the nationals with her big brother. She is thrilled that she will earn herself a New Zealand ranking and be allowed to have an "NZ" on her licence plate :) :) :)

Why is it ...

... that when you have no shoes on, people say you're "wearing bare feet" ?!?!?

Anyone care to explain it to me ?

If you can't say something nice ...

... don't say anything at all ?

How many of you had that saying drummed into you as a kid growing up ?

So in case you were wondering ... that's why I haven't been here lately. It's nothing major ... just a bunch of blah-type stuff that no one wants to hear.

I also don't have the option that some others do of using my blog as a source for venting. Some of the people I work with know I blog, and read it occasionally. So does my husband.

So the little things that niggle me shall remain firmly ensconced in my head.
