Busy doing "stuff" ...

So it's been a busy couple of weeks. For the three of you who occasionally pay attention, I thought perhaps an update on the reason behind my erratic posting might be in order ...

First off, it appears having a social life and a circle of friends has snuck up on me when I wasn't looking. We had our work mid-year function last weekend, and in between the planning for that (I was roped into the Social Club Committee on day two of my new job) and the organisation, since then I haven't had time to breathe.

(I promise I will post some pics and some more details later this weekend ... it was a total blast !!!)

One of the women at work and I have signed up for Weight Watchers together. I wasn't happy with how I was feeling since we moved down here ... although I don't look overweight I just wasn't comfortable. And apparently the last few kilos can be the hardest to shift ... so what I really needed was support, motivation and new ideas. Besides, if it's going to cost me money I know I'm more likely to actually stick to the programme ... I'm not going to pay $17 a week to put on weight !!!

I lost 900g last week, have been walking with P every lunch time and am feeling really good about my decision so far.

Since we took the kids to Alexandra at the start of the holidays, and knowing that S was taking ice skating lessons this term, I decided I wanted to start again. I used to figure skate when I was younger (I did the math and realised it was 21 years ago ... which made me feel very very old that I could remember something from that long ago !!!!!) and so I'm starting on Monday night with a whole group of other adults-only.

The MOTH and a friend have started playing squash again, and as soon as I finish typing this we're off to the courts so I can try to hit a ball for the first time in over ten years.

Combine that with having actually made time to have a coffee with a girlfriend twice in the past two weeks, going out for dinner this coming week with the people from the place I used to work, and the basic necessities like having my nails and my hair done ... and you'll understand why I laughed when the MOTH asked me the other night if I want to try and find a scrapbooking class to join like I did up north ...

Where am I going to find the time ?!?!?

Little Miss Grumpy ...

One of the things I really really like about the school the rugrats go to is that, in the absence of a school pool, they load all the kids on a bus once a week during Term 3 and truck them to the pool in town to teach them to swim.

Due to the fact that S, in spite of repeated threats, continues to keep growing and growing, we had to go swimsuit shopping after school. Not the easiest task in the middle of winter when most shops are focusing on snow rather than sun.

Both rugrats are in one of those insanely polite, cheerful, friendly moods they spiral off into on the odd occasion, S more so than K. An elderly woman with a walking stick wanders past ...

S (doing her best "I'm adorably cute" impersonation) : "Hello !!!"

Elderly woman with walking stick keeps right on walking ...

S (looking dumbfounded that anyone would ignore aforementioned adorably cute features) : "I said hello ... turn up your hearing aide !!"

I am incredibly thankful that she didn't hear ... who knew sarcasm would manifest itself so young ?

Stop the world, I wanna get off !!!

I'm trying hard to understand something. I don't have friends here to hang out with, haven't joined any clubs, don't go out partying and drinking, only work part time and we have a dishwasher ...

So why am I always so busy and never seem to have the time to do anything ?!?!?!

Last week I simply couldn't find time to go to the butcher ... so we lived on the frozen fish fingers and chicken schnitzel hiding in the back of the freezer. We made soup when we were bored with protein-wrapped-in-breadcrumbs.

It's now Friday night, the rugrats are in bed, we've been grocery shopping and eaten dinner and I should be able to relax ... but all I can think of is that I have five loads of laundry to do, three pairs of jeans to mend (K plays rugby on a tennis court at school !!!!) and that some time between now and Monday morning I have to find the time to paint my nails ...

Are the days getting shorter, or am I just getting old ?!?!?
