Another spectacular day in Dunedin ...

We have been so lucky with our weather this summer. OK, so for the most part the temperature isn't quite as warm as it is up north, which is only to be expected when you're this much further (or should that be farther ?) from the equator and an equal distance closer to the South Pole.

The MOTH had just finished serving up dinner tonight (roast chicken, salad and crispy fried potatoes ... yummy) when S asks "Can we go and eat outside under the tree on the grass ?"

Umm ... you know how it is when your initial reaction is to just say "No" because "we don't normally do things like that and it's a school night and you have to be in bed early" ?!?!?

Well ... we didn't say no. And the rugrats ate their dinner in ten minutes flat, were in an excellent mood for the remainder of the evening and went to bed with a minimum of fuss and argument.

So I think we might embrace this method of dining wholeheartedly ... at least until the novelty wears off, or the cold weather hits, whichever happens first :) There's less mess to clean up at any rate ...

And in keeping with the whole al fresco dining idea, the pic below shows S and her best friend eating lunch under the aforementioned tree last weekend (is it just me, or does anyone else think they look like they should be closely related ?)

No, it's not just you, they definitely look like sisters.

The weather up here has changed a fair bit in the last week. It's become windier (is that possible for Wellington??) and raining off and on. Still warm and muggy for the most part though.

okay, at this particular moment, I'm very jealous. Here's the thing--we have had a lot of snow this winter--and it is winter in Ottawa. We've had so much snow that we don't know where to shovel it anymore. The piles by our driveway are as tall as we are. And it's been cold. And icy. Icy enough to have 3 30car crashes on three different highways in one day. And I don't mind having a winter birthday--but even I am beginning to wish for something springish!
