Setting a bad example ...

Some days are just too much effort.

You can't see the floor in my laundry for the piles of dirty washing.
The kitchen bench is loaded with "all-the-things-that-don't-fit-in-the-dishwasher".
It's sunny.
And my shoulder hurts and will not stop.

So I'm playing hooky. Just don't tell my kids ...

Time for a deep breath ...

Nearly a month to the day since I posted last. I don't think I have ever gone this long before ... and to my two readers, I apologise if you were left feeling I had abandoned you. However, I am going to take a leaf from Lisa's book and make this an update post ...

The rugrats are great. We have had K at the social worker for his last appointment and the general opinion is that he is all "fixed" and his earlier issues have been resolved. The parenting course that the MOTH and I took has paid off in two children who are, for the most part, well behaved, respectful and an absolute pleasure to be around. We've instigated family meetings where we discuss things all together and work stuff out ... and it's all good. I'm not saying they're angels all the time, but we have far far far more good days than we have bad ones ...

S has been in for her first visit at the paediatric clinic at the hospital where they ran some tests which we're waiting to hear back on. There is a possibility she may have inherited more than just her mother's filthy temper ... she's had a couple of "episodes" that may or may not prove to be epilepsy. If she is, she is ... (shrug) ... it's not the end of the world and we'll deal with it as and when it happens.

Both the rugrats are doing really well with their skating and are training hard for the end of year Ice Show. S has two numbers to learn where she plays the wind and a diamond respectively. K is a skunk, which is actually pretty good casting :) I have to learn to skate in a ballgown with a partner ... and have two weeks. I'm sure we'll all muddle through ...

The MOTH and I spent hours and hours and hours planning and then running the inaugural Dunedin BMX Club Schools Challenge. We invited 58 primary schools in the Dunedin area to enter a team of five or more riders (no previous BMX experience necessary) for a fun race day. In spite of having to battle apathy the likes of which I have never encountered before, we ended up with seven schools and 54 riders entered. And it hosed down with rain. But by the end of the day the kids were all thoroughly exhausted, wet and filthy ... and smiling from ear to ear. Success all round ... and everyone looking forward to next year.

BMX travelling starts in a couple of weeks. Weekends will be spent traipsing between Dunedin and Invercargill, Alexandra, Gore and Christchurch. At least the car has a WOF now (imagine if you can, the horror when I checked the date on it last week to discover it had expired in early July and that I had been driving around in a car that was not only unwarranted, but also uninsured for four months !!!!)

My weight loss regime is working well. After a couple of weeks off (where I didn't back-slide, much to my amazement) I've currently lost six of the ten kilos I am aiming for. Much of this is due to the fact I am now exercising regularly for the first time since the rugrats were born, an experience my body has never entirely forgiven me for. The MOTH is playing squash three times a week, and I've been tagging along a couple of times a week, plus my skating lessons ... and feeling the improvement.

However, over the past few weeks my shoulder has been progressively more painful, to the extent I couldn't rotate it far enough back to do up my bra. So did I go see a physio ? No, I simply started wearing a front opening bra :/ And carried on playing squash. Finally the fact I couldn't carry anything heavier than a cup of coffee, had difficulty reaching for a seatbelt and was starting to find it hard to do my job made me go see a physio last week. Apparently I have a frozen shoulder with possible rotator cuff damage, am not allowed to play squash for a month and have to go visit my friendly physio 2 - 3 times a week until it's all better. I can feel the weight piling back on already :(

So in the absence of playing squash ... here I am blogging instead !!!
