Cruelty, plain and simple ...
WARNING ... this is not a cute and fluffy post
I work with a woman who has a cat. An old cat. A very sick old cat which is slowly dying of kidney failure.
I know this because we are daily subjected to the tale of her declining pet, and how sick he is and how bad she feels.
And this makes me mad. Not because (eventually) she is going to have her cat put down. Far from it. What makes me furious is that she is postponing the decision because she can't bear to be unselfish enough to have it put to sleep.
This animal has no quality of life. It has lost the ability to go outside to the bathroom, and has to be hand fed. Surely its reward for 15 years of love and affection is to be well cared for to the end, and allowed to go with dignity. She has a responsibility to this animal to stop its pain and let it go ... for its sake, not hers.
So how do I tell her that I think she's a selfish bitch, without actually telling her I think she's a selfish bitch ??

You could give her your blog address lol
and you're right, I agree with you...she needs to put that cat out of it's misery, poor soul.
Not sure how you could do it diplomatically though...perhaps a gentle nudge about animal's rights and selflessly giving things up for the greater good? If she loved that cat as much as she appears to, she wouldn't prolong it's life.
Just my 2 cents.
I can see why she wouldn't want to put it down.
How do you take someone you love for a car ride to their death.
I had my dog put down and I still feel like I betrayed him.
He was old and had cancer but he still licked my hand and walked around.
He was in pain but he was happy to be with me.
He was 18 years old when I killed him and thats what I did. It doesn't mater that the vet put the needle to him. I let it happen.
I understand this has to happen if there is no choice but when do we know that the time has come.
What if we jump the gun and rob an animal of a few precious months of life.
Tough call.
If you tell her and she does it.
She will hate you for it.
She has to come to that decision on her own.
Thanks for stopping by.
leave a brochure entitled 'so your cat is too old to enjoy any life now?'
one day when shes banging on about how crap the cats' life is say 'have you considered euthanasia?'
