Well alrighty then !!!
We took the rugrats to the mall this afternoon.
When I was little, I had my photo taken with Santa every year whether I wanted to or not. I also suspect that there may even be a coupla photos of me in more recent years cuddled up to a mall Santa with my mom. We used to have the rugrats photos taken with Santa every year too, until we moved to Whangarei where there is not only no Santa, but no mall for him to live in ...
This is probably the last year we will be able to get away with the whole Santa scenario. S is still a firm believer, but K has spent the past 12 months trying to get me to confirm that Santa is actually us. It's like he is pretty sure he knows it's not real, but he just needs adult confirmation. And I am not prepared to do that ... I'm not ready for my little guy to be too old for Santa !!
Me : "So, how would you like to go and have your photo taken with Santa ?"
S : "No."
Me (amazed she isn't jumping at the chance) : "Why not ?"
S : "Cos he isn't the real Santa and I'm not sitting on some strange old man's knee !"
How can you argue with that ?!?!?!?

you're right, there really is no way to counteract that statement. I guess you could've assured her you would be with her the whole time, or that he was one of Santa's helpers because the real Santa can't be in so many places at one time. Of course, there is the fact that NO you don't want her sitting on any strange old man's knee any other time either, so how come you're asking her to do it willingly now? lol
When Cam started asking, I answered "He's real for those that truly believe in him"...it was about the only way I felt I could get away with it and NOT lie at the same time lol
Course as he got into his teens, he used it to his advantage, asking me what I thought Santa might bring him for Xmas and then asking what I had in store for him, HE EVEN ASKED ME THAT AGAIN LAST WEEK! Thought if he continued to believe he'd get more, pfft.
Santa has a lot to answer for I reckon.
Sheesh, I forgot to say Merry Christmas to you when I was in here earlier!
