Isn`t it something when we find they can do something we never knew about. After over 40 yrs of marriage, one day Hubby mentioned he wished he could make those small wood rattle boxes like his Dad used to make. I told him that if he could imagine what they looked like, then he could make one. They start with just a small piece of 2x4 and whittled down to end up with a small open type box- just a top, bottom held together with the 4 tiny posts at the four corners, but leaving enough wood inside to carve it down to look like 2 separate wood marbles inside. They sound like a rattle box when you shake them. He ended up making two of them and even engraved my initials on the second one-- he gave them both to me. A while ago, one of my twins asked if I would leave one of them to him, so I gave him one. You know which one I kept for myself. If he had lived more years, I bet he would have also tried making the chairs he said his Dad made from small tree limbs. Would have been fun watching him. He used to think he wasn`t very smart, but over the years I was able to convince him how smart he truly was. He just needed more self confidence. Bet the balloon poodle made your S smile.
Everyone has hidden talents. Making balloon animals is fun but the kid tend to take them apart to find out how you did it and end uo with a weird shaped balloon.
Yep, the man at the market whom we originally bought the balloon poodle off wasn't actually that good ... and by the time we got back to the car S was holding more of a "balloon snake with ears" ... I'm still amazed the MOTH could put it back together for her ... they always un-twist when I try to do them :)
I think you should throw a lump of clay and a potter's wheel at your hubby, bet he'd made something beautiful out of that...better yet, you could help him make something. You know...wet clay, slippery hands an all that.
